Audrey Mestre Film – “No Limits”

The ESPN documentary film “No Limits” that aired 23rd July 2013 has been made available online via Vimeo.

There was lots of controversy surrounding  Audrey Mestre’s death and two books have been written about the event:

1) The Last Attempt

2) The Dive: A Story of Love and Obsession

I have read both books and find that the “Last Attempt” is the most believable and best written. If you only want to read one of the them choose “The Last Attempt”

World Record for Canadian – William Winram

On the morning of May 25th 2013 William Winram showed up looking very relaxed as the first competitor of the day. He hung out on the big Catamaran  and chatted with the safety divers until he was able to get into the water for his warm-up.

I was one of the safety divers for this dive and was glad to see that William left the surface looking as relaxed as he had been an hour earlier. William’s duck dive looks so effortless and smooth and his finning is steady relaxed and a pleasure to watch. The grace must come from the thousand of dives he has done during the shark tagging with the Watermen Project and other shark adventures like the IMAX Sharks 3d movie.

Natalie  and I kept breathing up after William left the surface and even though we  had done these dives many times before there was more anticipation, because this was a fellow Canadian and a friend diving for a world record.
I left the surface 1 minuet and 10 seconds before William’s announced time and went down quickly to make sure to meat him at 30 meters. I could see William coming up when I was at about 15 meters and only got to hang for 5-10 seconds before William came up finning slowly, but steadily and still relaxed.

William broke the surface, took a few breath and did his surface protocol with ease – not a sign of any issues after this amazing dive.

Congratulation William, 94 meters with bi-fins – well done.
